Blowfish Dinner

So in my last posting I talked about my hot pot chili blowfish dinner. I forgot to take my camera, but luckily the visiting family friend brought hers, so she sent me her pics so I can share with everyone. We walked to the restaurant because it was close, right in Naka Meguro. My host mother had called in a reservation to the restaurant and already placed our order. She ordered some sort of 5 course meal for us and it was AMAZING. Below is where we went (Torafugu tei):

A photo of the blowfish we ate. I guess they were tiger blowfish or something so they were large!! Good bye blowfish friends, time for dinner!

Below is our appetizer. It was some part of the fish in sashimi (raw sliced) form. The green stuff is scallions and the red stuff is momiji oroshi (slightly spicy grated carrots) and it is topped with ponzu sauce.

Then it was sashimi time! :-) Blowfish sashimi. The best part is, that is one person's portion! Wooo*

Then we had blowfish karaage (fried). You would not think of it at first, but it was SOOOO good!!!!

After karaage, they brought out the hot pot. I had never seen one in a basket so it was pretty interesting. The green thing floating inside is combu (type of seaweed) for base flavoring.

So the next part is a little gross so don't look if you can't handle a little culture shock. This is the plate of ingredients that came out to put in the hotpot. The lighter pink stuff is mostly bones and muscle to make the soup base taste better (also has lots of collagen so it's supposed to be nice for your skin). The really gross thing that you can't even see in the photo is that because it they had JUST prepared the fish before they brought it out, the muscles were still MOVING!!!!!! So anyway, we just threw it in the pot and ate it haha. Below the meat are veggies :-)

So after we had the hotpot, we mixed in rice and egg in it and had ojiya which was really good. Then to finish it off we had ice cream with home made caramel drizzled on top! There are no pics of these two things because they were way too normal looking to take pictures of lol.

Gochisousama deshita!!!
